Bring Back the Sparkle: Cleaning Your Glass Shower Door

There are many benefits to a glass shower enclosure or shower doors. From making the bathroom brighter and appear more spacious, to adding to the clean and streamlined aesthetic essential for today’s modern bathroom.

Cleaning the glass and mirrors in your bathroom is easy too, especially if you make it a part of your daily routine by giving it a quick once-over with a squeegee to remove excess water after your shower.

But inevitably, there will be times when water droplets are left to dry on the glass causing unsightly water marks. There are several ways to bring back the sparkle into your bathroom with a few easy cleaning methods.

Store-bought cleaning products that contain ammonia are very effective to bringing clarity back to your shower glass, by breaking down grease and grime and drying quickly with a streak-free effect. However, it’s important to use the chemical correctly and to ventilate the room. Never mix ammonia with bleach as it can create toxic gasses.

A good option if you prefer using natural products over a chemical solution is to use baking soda and white vinegar. Vinegar is great for dissolving water marks, so spray some over the wet glass and let sit for a few minutes before using some baking soda on a sponge to gently scrub away the marks. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.

If the scum build-up is light, lemon juice can be used to break down the dirt too. Mix lemon juice with water in a spray bottle and spray over the glass. Wait for a few minutes before wiping clean.

Another top tip is dryer sheets which are very effective in removing soap scum. Just dampen a fabric dryer sheet and wipe down the glass.

However, as we all know, prevention is always better than cure. A daily routine of removing excess water from the glass after each shower use will prevent spots and streaking on the glass, especially in areas with hard water. Besides squeegeeing the excess water off, using a simple daily cleaner in a spray bottle and a quick daily wipe down will help preserve glass clarity. Keeping the shower dry will also reduce the likelihood of mould and mildew from building up, thereby keeping the overall health of your home at a high level.
