Creating a Mirror Wall

A timeless home design trend is cladding walls with mirrored glass. There are a number of benefits to having wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, mirrors, such as visually enlarging the room, and introducing more light into the space. It can also act as a focus point to the room when design elements are added to the mirror.

A wall of mirrors is ideal for a home gym/studio, as well as a dedicated dressing room or wardrobe space. A wall of mirrors above the vanity in the bathroom also works well. Regardless of its eventual use, there are a few do’s and don’ts to consider before installing a mirror wall.

Choose carefully which wall the mirror will grace, and what view will be reflected in it. Visually enlarging the space is great, unless what you see in the mirror is an unattractive or perpetually untidy part of the home. You might consider placing the mirror opposite a window to double the natural light in the room.

When hanging mirrors or cladding walls with mirrors, there is the possibility of overdoing it! It’s best to only clad one wall or two at the very most. Anything more than that and it might look like a disorienting carnival funhouse.

To further create an aesthetic focal point, the mirrored wall can also carry with it design elements to enhance the décor style of the room. Mirrors can be etched, bevelled, coloured or antiqued to complement your interior décor. A frame can be added, as can mullions to make the mirror appear like a window.
