Why Is It Important to Get That Cracked Windshield Fixed?

  • Post category:Auto Glass

To paraphrase poet Robert Burns, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. No matter how careful we may be when operating our vehicle, accidents can and do happen. A chipped or cracked windshield can happen to anyone.

That little chip or star crack may be somewhat unsightly, but is it really so bad that it warrants a repair or even a windshield replacement? The answer is yes!

What may appear to be a small blemish in the glass can easily become a much larger flaw, so that what started out as a potential repair job could quickly turn into a bigger windshield replacement.

It is also unsafe to drive with a damaged windshield, as it can impact how clearly you can see when driving. Sunlight on the crack can also cause reflection and a distracting glare on the glass. This is especially unsafe if the crack is in the driver’s direct line of sight.

The windshield also offers protection to the occupants of the vehicle. Comprised of two sheets of glass sandwiching a vinyl resin, the windshield is designed to keep the glass in place upon impact. If any part of the windshield is compromised, as with a crack or chip, the level of protection is greatly reduced.
